Meet Jess

Hi, I’m Jess, the counsellor behind Green Petal Counselling. I’m a registered counsellor with PACFA and hold a Master of Counselling. I offer a warm and supportive counselling space to help you navigate life’s challenges, improve your emotional wellbeing, and move towards meaningful growth. I welcome anyone seeking counselling support, regardless of age, background, or stage of life.

I grew up in Hong Kong and moved to Brisbane for school around 15 years ago. Since then, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for different cultures, perspectives, and ways of experiencing the world. This journey has shaped how I understand identity, belonging, and the importance of our roots. I also recognise how strongly culture and lived experience can influence the way we think, feel, connect, and navigate challenges – something I hold in mind throughout my counselling work.

This perspective naturally informs my approach to counselling. To me, counselling is about creating a safe, supportive space where you can slow down and explore what’s going on for you at your own pace. I don’t see myself as the expert in your life, but rather someone who walks alongside you – supporting you as you make sense of your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way that feels right for you. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is to gently support and guide you through the counselling process.

Along the way, I’ve come to deeply value how much I continue to learn through this work. I am consistently moved by the strength, resilience, and courage I see in the people I work with. Clients often inspire me through their honesty, reflection, and willingness to keep going even during difficult times. These moments stay with me and continue to shape how I show up as a counsellor. They remind me of the importance of ongoing growth – both for my clients and for myself.

My counselling practice is grounded in core values that guide every session. Respect is central – honouring your lived experience, your pace, and your autonomy. Compassion shapes how I listen and respond, creating a safe and non-judgemental space for exploration. Connection is also key, as meaningful change often begins with feeling truly heard and understood. I also value curiosity, openness, and authenticity, which allow space for honest reflection and deeper understanding.

Outside of counselling, I find joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life. I love being in nature, spending time with animals, and engaging with creativity through art. I value my relationships deeply and enjoy spending time with friends and family. I’m naturally curious and enjoy learning, as well as hearing people’s stories, what matters to them, where they’ve been, and where they hope to go.

The name Green Petal Counselling reflects my belief that growth is an ongoing and evolving process. Like a green petal, it symbolises renewal, resilience, and the quiet strength it takes to keep growing, even through life’s challenges.

A big part of my everyday life is my rescue dog, Millie – a Maltese cross (though we’re still not entirely sure what she’s crossed with, so if you have any guesses, I’d love to hear them). She has the biggest smile and a gentle, easy-going nature that brings a lot of warmth into my days.

Spending time with her is a quiet reminder of the simple but important things we often forget – to slow down, to be present, and to take things as they come. Dogs have a natural way of meeting the world with openness, without judgement, and finding joy in the small, everyday moments.

In many ways, Millie reflects the kind of space I hope to create for my clients – one where you can feel safe, at ease, and able to be yourself. That sense of comfort, where you can breathe a little more freely and feel grounded, is something I aim to support in every counselling session.
