Your Counsellor

Hi, I’m Jess, the counsellor behind Green Petal Counselling. I have a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Psychology and a Master of Counselling, alongside years of experience working with people from all walks of life in housing, social work, and counselling.

I feel incredibly privileged to support others through their challenges. While I have a particular passion for working with youth and young adults, I welcome anyone seeking help, no matter their age or background.

To me, counselling is about creating a safe, compassionate space where you feel heard and valued. I deeply believe that we’re all human, and at times, we all need a little support. It’s humbling to be part of someone’s journey toward growth, resilience, and hope, and I’m here to walk that path with you.

Let’s take that first step together.

Our Practice Framework

Client and Strengths Based

Your journey is at the heart of our work. Together, we’ll uncover your strengths, set goals, and explore solutions to empower your path toward healing, growth, confidence, and resilience.

Self-Compassion

Incorporating mindfulness techniques and fostering self-compassion are key elements of our practice. These tools can help you manage stress, regulate emotions, and cultivate a greater sense of well-being.

Future-Focused

While honouring your past, we focus on helping you envision and build a hopeful, fulfilling future. Together, we’ll identify strategies and actions that support positive change and personal growth.

Trauma-Informed

We recognise the profound impact of trauma on one’s life and approach every session with sensitivity and care. Our trauma-informed practices ensure that you feel safe, supported, and in control throughout the therapeutic process.

Questions You Might Have

My counselling style is warm, supportive, and tailored to your unique needs. Each session is a safe space where you can share your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. We’ll gently explore what’s on your mind, work through challenges, and find strategies that support your well-being and personal growth.

Yes, counselling is confidential. What you share stays between us, helping you feel safe and comfortable. The only time I may need to break confidentiality is if there’s a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if I’m legally required to — but I’ll always talk to you about this if it comes up. Your privacy is really important to me.

It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous — starting something new can be daunting. The initial consultation is a gentle way for us to meet, talk about what’s on your mind, and see if counselling feels like a good fit for you. There’s no pressure — just a safe, welcoming space for you to share as much or as little as you want.

Counselling is a supportive conversation where we work together to better understand your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It can help with things like anxiety, stress, low mood, or feeling stuck. It’s also a space to build self-awareness, gain clarity, and find ways to move forward that feel right for you.

It really depends on you and what you’re hoping to work through. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others prefer more ongoing support. In our first session, we can talk about what feels right for you — there’s no set number, and we move at your pace.
